Q: Has a guest ever stayed with you?
Charlina McGee, Global Real Estate Advisor, Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, Naples, Florida.
I have clients who live in Alsace in France who have purchased two condominiums from me. During their visit to Naples, they planned to carry out major renovations. It was busy season in Naples when all the snowbirds visit and the hotels are full. Since they needed a place to stay, I offered to let them stay with my husband and I at our house by the lake. They stayed for several days. Because of our hospitality, our business relationship has changed from business to friendship. My husband was invited and traveled to Ireland and Norway to go fly fishing with my clients. We have since visited them several times at their beautiful home bordering a vineyard in Barr, France, and now have an open invitation to stay with them whenever we visit France, which we plan to do again in June.

I own a condominium condominium at Fairmont Heritage Place Mayakoba. These units cannot be rented. The only people who could use the houses are residents or friends of an owner. I had a prospect who was in love with Mayakoba and wanted to buy a unit, but wanted to be able to experience what it was like to live there instead of staying at the hotel. I had already confirmed my week and told him that I didn’t mind giving him the weekend in my unit with his family. But I made him promise that if he liked it, he would buy a unit there. He told me we had a deal. So on Friday I went to see him and he came into my house. I own a penthouse that has four bedrooms and is almost 6,000 square feet. It is very impressive. Monday they left, and a few days later they wired the escrow and we closed the deal. It worked very well.

During Covid, I took a list from a woman who was high risk and couldn’t stay home during screenings. I had literally 80 agents who wanted to come into the house to show it off. So, I had him stay in my 38ft Class A coach for two days and parked him at my house. It was crazy, but we managed, and I sold his house in 72 hours.
